MLB Rumors: Top 3 Trade Destinations For Byron Buxton

Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton celebrates after hitting home run during 2025 game.

Byron Buxton trade destinations are suddenly a real conversation after years of him insisting he would finish his career with the Minnesota Twins

Following a fire sale at the 2025 deadline and fresh reporting that he may reconsider waiving his no-trade clause for the right contender, front offices are watching closely.

Buxton just posted one of the best seasons of his career with 35 home runs, a .264/.327/.551 slash line and a Silver Slugger in center field, all while finally staying mostly healthy over 126 games.

With three years and $45 million left on his deal, he is a difference-maker on a contender, not a rebuilding team.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves already tried to land Buxton once and now have the opening they have been waiting for. Alex Anthopoulos explored an “outside the box” deal for him at last year’s deadline, only to have Buxton flatly refuse to waive his no-trade clause.

With the Twins flirting with a deeper teardown and reporters suggesting Buxton could soften that stance if more veterans like Joe Ryan are moved, Atlanta makes too much sense.

They have a championship core in its prime, a need for another dynamic up-the-middle athlete and a manager who values aggressive, all-field power. A healthy Buxton in center field behind that rotation instantly raises the Braves’ World Series ceiling.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies have been circling Buxton for years and 2025 only made the fit louder. Their outfield remains unstable beyond Brandon Marsh, with Nick Castellanos underwhelming and likely on his way out and Harrison Bader hitting free agency after a strong but short run.

Philadelphia badly needs electricity in center field and Buxton checks every box. Owner John Middleton has never been shy about spending and Buxton’s contract is manageable for a win now payroll.

If the Twins signal any sort of retreat, the Phillies should be near the front of the line with a prospect heavy offer.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are exactly the type of big spending contender Buxton was built for. They are always hunting for premium up the middle athletes and an impact center fielder remains one of the few areas where they can still upgrade.

Buxton’s recent production, combined with his relatively team friendly deal and full no-trade power, would give him a chance to chase a ring in October while still controlling his future.

If Minnesota leans fully into a youth movement, Los Angeles will absolutely be in that conversation. That being said, however, there are reports out there that Buxton would refuse to waive his no-trade clause to be moved to the Dodgers.
