Yankees Linked To Two All-Star Infielders On Trade Market
The New York Yankees need an infield upgrade. They're one man short of a full deck on the infield if they really hope to be World Series contenders.
Ryan McMahon is hitting .190 with an OPS in the mid-.500s. They're not a serious team if they go into the postseason with a glaring hole like that in the lineup. Jose Caballero hasn't produced much offense for them at short, but he provides plenty of flexibility.
With that, Tim Kelly writes in Bleacher Report that the Yankees should be targeting one of two All-Stars by the trade deadline.
CJ Abrams linked to Yankees as prime trade target
In Washington, the Nationals have been sitting on an All-Star trade candidate since last season. Shortstop CJ Abrams has been a consistent offensive force for three years running. And he's at it again, leading the majors in RBIs with 46, while batting a career-high .288 with an OPS 200 points better than his career mark, sitting at .925. His trade value will never be higher, and the Nats should take advantage of that by preying on the Yankees.
Finally adding an All-Star at shortstop, it would allow the Yanks to move Jose Caballero into the spot he's best suited for, a super-utility role. Much of that could be spent at third base, writes Kelly.
Can Yankees add Ketel Marte, and move Chisholm to 3B?
Or the Bronx Bombers can attempt to pry three-time All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte out of Arizona. Jazz Chisholm Jr., who's been tending second base this season, can also play third, which would solve their McMahon problem.
Marte's name was heard plenty on the trade market during the offseason, but the Snakes elected to hold on to him. And now on an 8-2 run heading into Tuesday's action, the D-Backs find themselves back in the playoff hunt, and could easily continue to rebuff trade offers.
