.340 Hitting Infielder Is Newest MLB Free Agent

The free agent market has a new entrant on the infield, as the KBO's Sung-mun Song has now been posted by his Korean team, the Kiwoom Heroes.

The third baseman has had two straight sensational seasons, including batting .340 in 2024, and following that up with another terrific power/speed combo season in 2025, in which he blasted 26 home runs to go with 25 stolen bases, while slashing .315/.387/.530 for a .917 OPS. He also drove in 194 runs over those two seasons.

The 29-year-old started his career slowly, but has broken out big time since 2024. He has shown tremendous gap power.

The left-handed hitter can also play second base, but is primarily a third baseman.

As noted by Will Sammon in The Athletic, "evaluators see him as more of a utility type than an everyday player."

Among teams that could be in the market for a lefty bat and/or 2B/3B/utility player, are the LA Angels, Houston Astros, and Oakland A's.

The posting period has begun, and runs for only 30 days.
