Athletics Designate Catcher For Assignment

The Oakland Athletics have designated Austin Allen for assignment. With this, he has been removed from their 40-man roster.

Allen has made appearances in each of the last three seasons for Oakland. In five games this season, he has struggled noticeably at the plate, as he has just one hit in 14 at-bats. With that, he has struck out nine times. Thus, one can understand why the A's have decided to make this move.

Teams in need of some depth at the catcher position could give Allen a look, though. Although he isn't a star, it is always smart to have backup options.

In 57 career games between the Padres and A's, Allen has two home runs, seven RBIs, and a .195 batting average.
