MLB Rumors: 3 Teams Who Should Target Robinson Cano

Robinson Cano was designated for assignment by the New York Mets earlier this week. No other club is going to take on his current contract, and it's highly unlikely that he will accept a move to Triple-A. As a result of this, he is expected to become a free agent. On a cheap deal, he could be a very solid addition, and that's especially true if he bounces back. Here are three teams who should take a chance on him.

Chicago White Sox: The White Sox came into this season with the expectation of being true contenders. Yet, they are off to a very poor start, as they have a 9-13 record and are third in the AL Central. Eloy Jimenez is currently out for several weeks, so they could use another bat in their lineup to help get them back on track. Perhaps this fact could lead them to pursue Cano.

Boston Red Sox: Speaking of underachieving, the Red Sox are off to a disastrous start in 2022. Sporting a 9-14 record, they are in danger of falling out of the playoff race very early on in the season. Offensively, they have been abysmal. If Cano can rebound, he could provide them with a potential fix. This is especially true if J.D. Martinez takes over right field from the struggling Jackie Bradley Jr. This, in turn, would lead to a DH spot for Cano.

Los Angeles Dodgers: The Dodgers showed last year that they aren't afraid of taking chances on veterans. It worked out with Albert Pujols, so why couldn't it with Cano? At worst, they would be adding more depth to their major league roster by signing him. Furthermore, playing for a contender like LA could intrigue Cano, too.
