Ranking the Top 10 Remaining MLB Free Agents

Most of the big names are gone, but there are still some impactful players on the free agent market, both on the pitching and offensive sides of the ball.

Here, we take a look at the list of Top 10 Remaining MLB Free Agents:

  1. Framber Valdez, P
  2. Zac Gallen, P
  3. Eugenio Suarez, 3B
  4. Chris Bassitt, P
  5. Justin Verlander, P
  6. Lucas Giolito, P
  7. Max Scherzer, P
  8. Marcell Ozuna, DH
  9. Luis Arraez, INF
  10. Harrison Bader, OF

Valdez has been the top rotation arm on the market all winter long, but he may have overplayed his hand, as there doesn't seem to be any big-money, long-term deals left to be had. He will have to take a short-term deal, perhaps with opt-outs, to prove himself once again as a viable option next time around. We learned this week that there is one team that is a clear frontrunner to sign him.

Gallen, who is coming off his worst year in the majors (bad timing), is even more of a certain candidate to take a short 'prove it' type deal, to get back out on the market with a better contract year behind him.

Suarez had a bang-up year overall in 2025, with 49 home runs, placing him 5th in the majors. Of course, he still carries a ton of swing and miss in his game, with low batting averages and on-base percentages. But for a team looking for a big power boost, he is clearly the best bet left on the FA market. We looked recently at the top three suitors for him.

There are several other notable veteran pitchers on the list, including Bassitt, who, per Jim Bowden in The Athletic, has won at least 10 games each of the past six full seasons with an ERA under 4.00 in nine of those years.

Verlander and Scherzer have combined for six Cy Youngs and four World Series rings. They might not be at the top of their games anymore, as both are in their 40s, but they've shown they can still bring it in stretches, and they can also be invaluable mentors for young pitchers.

Elsewhere, there's a three-time batting champ still available in Arraez, and a Gold Glove outfielder coming off a very good year in Bader.
