MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Suitors for Eugenio Suarez

Free agent 3B Eugenio Suarez

Eugenio Suarez is one of the top remaining free agent bats on the market, and is the top choice at third base. He's coming off a monster year at the plate, and the 34-year-old is a target for at least three teams.

Suarez blasted 49 home runs in 2025, the fifth most in the majors. He also drove in a career-high 118 and posted an .824 OPS. However, his defense at third is far from ideal, and his strikeout counts continue to be among the highest anywhere in baseball.

Nevertheless, these three clubs are the frontrunners to sign him:

Seattle Mariners

In addition to his whiff tendencies, another caveat the M's might be considering with Suarez is that he hit just .189 after coming back over to Seattle at the trade deadline last year, with only a .682 OPS. In fact, including his previous stint with the Mariners, and the times he's visited as an opposing player, his career numbers at T-Mobile Park in Seattle are not overly impressive: a .211 batting mark, a .717 OPS and a whopping 251 strikeouts in 195 games. He has launched 35 homers in that time, as well.

Boston Red Sox

The BoSox have a huge hole at the hot corner after losing Alex Bregman to the Chicago Cubs in free agency. Do they look at Suarez as a fallback option? Bregman was a Gold Glover at third, so the downgrade defensively would be huge. But Boston has to replace that power and run production in its lineup.

Pittsburgh Pirates

The surprise contender in this race is the Pirates, who have been stunningly active this offseason. They've already traded for slugging second baseman Brandon Lowe, and signed free agent bat Ryan O'Hearn, adding a potential 50 home runs to their offensively-starved lineup. Plugging in Suarez as well would give the Pirates their best batting order in years.
