MLB Rumors: Yankees & Angels Linked To Trade

Los Angeles Angels Jo Adell reacts during 2024 game.

Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Trent Grisham are all currently on the New York Yankees' injured list.

A recent lineup featured Spencer Jones, Cody Bellinger, and Jasson Dominguez as the outfield trio, which is a combination that is functional but falls well short of what a team with World Series expectations should be running out there every day.

FanSided's Pinstripe Alley identified Jo Adell of the Los Angeles Angels as the most logical and aggressive trade target the Yankees could pursue to address the outfield emergency.

Who Adell Is Right Now

Adell smashed 37 home runs in 2025, the best season of his career and the first in which he posted above-average production by wRC+ after years of frustrating development as a former top prospect.

He is 27 years old, under team control through 2028, and is a natural right fielder capable of sliding into center when needed.

His current 2026 numbers have taken a step back from last season's breakout, going from a .778 OPS to a .695 OPS, but the power is still real and the Angels are 20-43, positioned to be one of the most active sellers in baseball ahead of August 3.

Per Angels insider Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, the organization is likely to consider trading Adell, given he has only a year and a half of team control remaining.

Why the Yankees Make Sense

Adell does not need to be a starter in New York.

He needs to be functional production in right field while Judge, Stanton, and Grisham work their way back, and with the Yankees' 43-27 record and AL East positioning to protect, adding a 37-home-run power threat at a reasonable cost makes sense without committing to a long-term blockbuster.

FanSided proposed a package of outfield prospect Roderick Arias and a lower-level pitching prospect as the framework for a deal, a cost the Yankees can justify on a player who gives them depth without mortgaging their future.

Whether the Angels view that kind of return as worth moving Adell now rather than waiting until next summer when his value may be higher is a bigger question.
