MLB Trade: Phillies & White Sox Complete Trade For Center Fielder

The Philadelphia Phillies were badly in need of another outfielder after back-to-back injury blows on Wednesday. Johan Rojas, who was just about set to return from his 80-game PED suspension, was declared out for the season after being diagnosed with a torn UCL. Then Adolis García suffered a right shoulder injury in Wednesday night's game
.

The Phillies were on the lookout for an outfielder, in particular, who could hit lefties.

Mission accomplished, as the Phils on Thursday have traded for Derek Hill from the Chicago White Sox.

The Phils also receive $250,000 in international bonus pool money, while the White Sox receive lower-level prospects OF Dylan Campbell and INF Jose Colmenares.

The latter is a 24-year-old infielder playing at A-Ball, while Campbell is a 23-year-old outfielder who provides plenty of speed from his 5'8", 200-pound frame.

As for Hill, he is expected to play center field for Philly and start against left-handed pitchers. The right-handed hitter's numbers against lefties this year include a .245 average and .789 OPS, with four homers in 53 at-bats. Over his career, which comprises 272 at-bats against southpaws, it looks a little nicer: .272 avg., .780 OPS and 11 homers and 31 RBIs.

Phillies outfielders are tied for last in the majors this year with a 0.1 WAR, according to FanGraphs, despite Brandon Marsh's breakout season. They're tied for second-last with just two home runs out of their center fielders.
