MLB Rumors: New York Mets Linked to $75 Million Outfielder
The New York Mets have had an up-and-down start to the 2026 season, and that is evidenced by their 4-4 record on the campaign. While this is the case, they recently snapped their three-game losing streak by picking up a 10-3 win over the San Francisco Giants in their last game. They will now be aiming to build off that from here.
With the Mets looking to bounce back this season after an underwhelming 2025 season, they should be aggressive on the trade market this campaign. One of their biggest needs is another impactful outfielder, and they are now being linked to an intriguing trade candidate because of it.
In a recent article for FanSided, Austin Owens predicted that the Mets would swing a trade with the Chicago White Sox to acquire veteran outfielder Andrew Benintendi.
"Benintendi was an All-Star in 2022 and is quietly coming off back-to-back 20 homer seasons. That power has come at the expense of some contact and on-base ability, but adding him to a contending team in need of some more pop like the New York Mets could be a game-changer," Owens wrote.
With the Mets needing another outfielder, the idea of them acquiring Benintendi is an interesting one. This is because he would not only give the Mets another solid hitter to work with, but also a former All-Star who has a World Series championship and a Gold Glove Award on his resume.
Benintendi would also be more than a rental for the Mets if acquired, as he is in the fourth year of his five-year, $75 million contract.
In 116 games last season for Chicago, Benintendi had 20 home runs, 63 RBIs, and a .240 batting average.
