MLB Rumors: Yankees Linked to Potential Big Trade With Cardinals
The New York Yankees are expected to be among the top teams in the majors again this season. Because of this, it would not be surprising in the slightest if they aggressively look to bolster their roster through trading this campaign.
The St. Louis Cardinals, on the other hand, are in the middle of a rebuild and are focused on the future. Due to this, they are standing out as prime sellers and should end up dealing more of their veteran players this season.
Because of this, the Yankees and Cardinals are now being linked to a potential trade.
In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Patrick McAvoy made a trade pitch that would have the Yankees acquire outfielder Lars Nootbaar and reliever JoJo Romero from the Cardinals in exchange for former top prospect Jasson Dominguez.
With the Yankees in need of another proven outfielder, it would make a lot of sense if they pursued Nootbaar this season. He would certainly have the potential to give their roster a nice boost, as he provides a bit of everything.
With Romero, the Yankees would be adding a solid relief pitcher who would bolster their bullpen. In 65 games this past season with the Cardinals, he had a 4-6 record and a 2.07 ERA.
Dominguez, on the other hand, could be a perfect fit on a rebuilding team like the Cardinals. They would provide him with the opportunity of receiving more consistent playing time in the majors. Furthermore, with St. Louis focused on the future, Dominguez is the kind of young player with good upside that they should be taking a chance on.
