Top 5 Available Remaining MLB Free Agents

We're a week and a half into the major league baseball season and there are still some free agents out there for the taking. Teams will start to have injuries and underperformances pile up, and may start looking at the open market for what's left over.

Here are the top 5 remaining available MLB free agents.

1. Lucas Giolito

The veteran hurler was a Cy Young contender for a couple of seasons earlier in his career. He missed all of 2024 following an internal brace procedure, but Giolito performed pretty well in his return to the mound in 2025 with Boston, with a 3.41 ERA and a 10-4 record. He finished the year on the injured list but he's supposedly healthy now. It's still a mystery why he hasn't been picked up yet.

2. Michael Kopech

Another surprising arm without a job at this point. Kopech did pitch well for the LA Dodgers in limited time last season, with a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings. Injuries cut his season short, but he also posted a strong 3.46 ERA in a full season in 2024 with the White Sox and Dodgers, in 67 innings. He should be a big help to a bullpen somewhere, if he stays healthy.

3. Tyler Anderson

Sure, he's 36 now, but the left-hander has two All-Star seasons on his resume from the previous four years. He faltered last year with the Angels, with a 4.56 ERA, but if he's on, he can provide some good innings. And let's face it, every team could use a potentially serviceable lefty.

4. Jesse Winker

Ok, forget about last year in New York. Injuries wiped out most of his 2025 with the Mets, but as a platoon bat, this guy has been pretty solid throughout his career—as long as you don't let him face lefties. But against righties, he has a career .274 batting mark and .836 OPS. He's only 32.

5. Nestor Cortes

The ex-Yankees hurler with the sometimes funky delivery had an awful year last season, but was an All-Star in New York as recently as 2022. And he had a solid 3.77 ERA for the Yankees in 30 starts in 2024. Again, a lefty who can offer some serviceable innings if he's on his game.
