Braves Re-Sign Player After Being DFA'd 3 Days Ago
It's been a strange ride so far this season for 35-year-old veteran pitcher Martin Perez. He was off to a nice start with the Atlanta Braves, with a 3.14 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in three appearances, two of them starts. But he was designated for assignment on the weekend.
He elected free agency after clearing waivers, but has once again signed back with the Braves, on a minor league deal—his second such signing with the Braves in the last three months.

The Braves had originally signed Perez to a minor league deal back in January. He broke camp with the team and fared well enough, despite the DFA last weekend. With the new signing, for now, he'll head to Triple-A Gwinnett, but should get a call back to the Show soon.
Perez has had a notable 15-year journey in the big leagues, including an All-Star appearance with Texas in 2022, and then a World Series championship the following year with the Rangers.
For his career, Perez is 91-94 with a 4.40 ERA in 328 games, including 281 starts.
Perez will likely be called up to fill the fifth starter's role in short order, as soon as Friday, according to reports. The Braves' rotation has been riddled by injuries this season, but nevertheless, sits at the very top of the majors in team ERA, at 2.93, and second in WHIP, at 1.09.
