3 Options For NY Mets To Replace Kodai Senga & His 8.83 ERA

The New York Mets are on a horrendous run in the early part of the season, riding a 10-game losing streak after yet another loss on Saturday to the Chicago Cubs.

There's more than just one man to blame for their 7-14 start, but Kodai Senga has certainly earned a lot of the attention after getting absolutely destroyed for the second straight time in his last start, and now sits with an 8.83 ERA.

Senga looked like he was righting the ship this season after being sent to the minors during a dreadful September to finish the 2025 campaign. A terrific spring training and a 3.09 ERA after his first two starts, however, has since been followed by a brutal run of 5.2 innings over his last two outings, in which he's been hammered for 14 hits, including four homers, and 13 earned runs.

If the Mets decide to bail on Senga and replace him in the rotation, there are three fine in-house options for them to look at:

Jonah Tong

The 22-year-old Toronto-born right-hander made his big league debut last August/September, and though it didn't go well (7.71 ERA), he came into the season as their No. 2 prospect. A rough start to the year in Triple-A shouldn't erase the sensational 22 starts he made last year at Double-A and Triple-A. He posted a 1.43 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP and 14.2 K/9.

Jack Wenninger

The Mets' No. 6 prospect is a 24-year-old 6-foot-4 right-hander who is off to a terrific debut at AAA. Through three starts, he has a 1.26 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, with 9.4 K/9. He posted a 2.92 ERA through 26 starts at AA last year.

Christian Scott

He was the Mets' No. 5 prospect in 2024 and got his feet wet with nine major league starts before losing the entire 2025 season to Tommy John surgery. But the 26-year-old righty is now back on the mound, and retired the last 11 batters he faced in his last start, going 5.2 innings with just two hits allowed and five strikeouts, his second consecutive solid start for Triple-A Syracuse.
