3 Trade Options for Cincinnati Reds To Replace Hunter Greene

The Cincinnati Reds suffered a big blow earlier this week, learning that ace starter Hunter Greene would be out until at least July. Where does that leave the Reds' starting rotation?

To be honest, it's not in terrible shape, with three solid arms still in Andrew Abbott, Brady Singer and Nick Lodolo. But being without Greene does still leave a big void. If the Reds decided to head out into the trade market to try to fill that spot, there are three names that jump to mind, based on their team's circumstances.

Luis Castillo, Seattle Mariners

This one just makes too much sense. Castillo spent the first six years of his career with the Reds. He became the elite starter he is now during that time.

Additionally, for a few seasons now, the M's have boasted one of the best and deepest staffs in the majors. They've been top 3 in MLB in WHIP for the past three years, and top 3 in two of the past three years in ERA. A few of the starters have heard their names on the rumor mill, including Castillo. This would be a natural fit for Cinci, if they're ready to give up the prospect capital it would cost.

Joe Ryan, Minnesota Twins

Another ace-like arm whose name has been on the trade market all offseason. The Twins don't have an overly deep rotation loaded with veteran arms like the Mariners, or the next team on this list. But they do have some up-and-coming talent they'd like to work in, like Mick Abel, Taj Bradley and Simeon Woods Richardson.

Eric Lauer, Toronto Blue Jays

Not as high-end of a solution, by any means, but Lauer has stated his preference to be a starter, while the Jays have such a deep staff that they are already projected to open the season with a six-man rotation. And that's not including Shane Bieber, who will start on the IL, or Lauer, who will start in the bullpen. Starting pitching is certainly an area of strength for the Jays, and this deal wouldn't cost as much for the Reds.
