MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Among 4 Teams In the Running For Edward Cabrera

If there's one area of strength for the Miami Marlins, it's in the rotation. Edward Cabrera is just one of their excellent young arms, and he is one of the names they're taking calls on.

According to insider Ken Rosenthal, the New York Yankees are one of the main pursuers of Cabrera, as they'd love to add an arm to their staff. The depth in their rotation is shaky, what with Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, and Clarke Schmidt all starting the 2026 season on the injured list as they each are rehabbing from elbow surgeries.

The insider notes that the Yankees & Marlins have made good trade partners in the past, so there could be a fit to get something done.
If a deal were to materialize between the two clubs, it would be the latest between the Yankees and their most active trade partner in recent years. The Yankees have executed two trades in the past two years with the Marlins, adding infielders Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jon Berti...

Marlins director of player development Rachel Balkovec knows the Yankees’ minor-league system well after spending four years with the organization, including managing the club’s Low-A affiliate, the Tampa Tarpons.

But the Yankees will have company in making their pitch to the Fish.

4 teams interested in Marlins' Edward Cabrera

According to insider Jon Heyman, the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and San Francisco Giants are also interested in the 27-year-old hurler. He's coming off a fine season in Miami, with a 3.53 ERA and a 150:48 strikeout to walk ratio in 137 innings.

All three of those teams are also in need of a rotation boost. The Mets are looking for a top-end boost, while the Cubs & Giants are looking for a complementary starter to supplement their existing aces. Two additional teams, the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles had also asked the Marlins about Cabrera earlier, but after recent rotation moves they're likely out of the bidding (Houston signing Tatsuya Imai, the O's trading for Shane Baz).

Cabrera is under team control for three more seasons, and with so many strong suitors, Miami will be asking for a hefty price in return in trade talks.
