MLB Trade Rumor: 5 Teams In As Freddy Peralta Talks 'Resume in Earnest'

It sounds like the Milwaukee Brewers are indeed seriously considering a trade of their ace Freddy Peralta. According to a Monday morning report from insider Ken Rosenthal in The Athletic, the trade talks for the elite starting pitcher are set to pick up steam big-time now that everyone's back from holidays.

The Freddy Peralta talks are about to resume in earnest. Both New York clubs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox are among the teams showing interest.

A major-league-ready starting pitcher figures to be part of the desired return, so the team can remain a contender.

The New York Yankees and the Mets are both in need of a top-line starter, as each of their rotations are sketchy heading into the 2026 season, though for different reasons.

The Yankees will be without Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Clarke Schmidt to begin the year as they each are rehabbing from elbow surgeries.

The Mets? Well, their rotation is just severely lacking an ace. Last year's supposed ace, Kodai Senga, finished the season in the minors, and by some accounts heads into '26 near the bottom of their rotation. Clay Holmes had a nice year in his first showing as a starter, and rookie Nolan McLean looked sensational—but he has only eight major league starts under his belt. Neither can be definitely counted on as a true ace for a long season.

The Braves do not have an elite farm system, but certainly can fit the criteria of a major league-ready starter to send back to Milwaukee. They expect to be right back in the hunt as a contender this season.

The Red Sox are also intending to be a serious contender, and even with their acquisition of Sonny Gray, they're still looking for another ace-like arm create an elite one-two punch with Garrett Crochet.

The Dodgers? Of course, they'll be involved. They had a super-deep starting rotation last season, but it was ravaged by injuries, so they want to be prepared for anything. Tyler Glasnow's name has been floated in potential trades this offseason.

Peralta will earn just $8 million this season, but is a pending free agent next offseason.
