Breaking: SF Giants Add Free Agent Starting Pitcher to Rotation
The San Francisco Giants have been in the market to bolster their starting rotation this offseason. Ideally, they were looking for a solid No. 3 to slot in behind their one-two punch of Logan Webb and Robbie Ray. On Tuesday, they dipped into free agency to sign nine-year veteran Adrian Houser. Not exactly a legit No. 3, but a very solid 4 or 5.
It's a two-year, $22 million deal for Houser, and the Giants have a club option for a third year.
Houser is a versatile right-hander, who registered a 3.31 ERA last season split between the Chicago White Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays. He induces weak contact and has above-average command. He doesn't rack up many strikeouts, but he keeps the walks down. He has a 4.06 career ERA across 173 big league appearances, 125 of them starts.
The Giants have also added a key high-leverage man for the bullpen on Tuesday, in Jason Foley, formerly of the Detroit Tigers.
More to come...
