MLB Rumors: Multiple Candidates Emerging To Be Orioles Next Manager

Baltimore Orioles manager Tony Mansolino changes pitcher during 2025 game.

The Baltimore Orioles fired Brandon Hyde in May, turning the dugout over to Tony Mansolino on an interim basis.

Mansolino has delivered a respectable 54-51 record since taking over, guiding the Orioles to series wins against contenders like the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Boston Red Sox. Despite his success, reports suggest president of baseball operations Mike Elias plans to conduct a lengthy search this offseason.

Baltimore’s job is considered one of the more attractive openings in baseball, thanks to stars like Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman, along with a wave of young talent including Jackson Holliday, Coby Mayo, and Samuel Basallo.

Mansolino’s Case and Competition

Mansolino has won over the clubhouse, with players responding well even after the team traded away veterans such as Cedric Mullins and Ryan O’Hearn. He’s leaned on a mix of player development and competitive intensity, often treating late-season games like playoff matchups.

Still, Baltimore insiders expect Elias to consider a wide pool of candidates. Former managers Brad Ausmus, Mike Matheny, Skip Schumaker, and Scott Servais have been floated, along with respected bench coaches Ryan Flaherty, Danny Lehman, and George Lombard.

Longtime major league figure John Mabry, currently serving as a senior advisor, is viewed as a long-shot but intriguing internal option.

A Lengthy Decision Ahead

Elias has never had the chance to run a full managerial search since taking over in 2018, and this winter will be his first opportunity to do so.
