BREAKING: Cardinals Willson Contreras Suspended Six Games
The St. Louis Cardinals will be without Willson Contreras soon, after Major League Baseball suspended the 33-year-old slugger six games for his fiery ejection against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night.
Contreras, who was tossed in the seventh inning following a disputed strike call, erupted in frustration, slamming his helmet, confronting umpire Derek Thomas, and flinging his bat backward, which struck hitting coach Brant Brown on the arm.

Contreras Slapped With 6 Game Suspension
Contreras continued venting in the dugout by tossing his shin guard and even a bucket of gum onto the field. MLB’s senior VP for on-field operations Michael Hill handed down the six-game ban along with an undisclosed fine, citing contact with the umpire and unsportsmanlike conduct.
Still, Contreras was back in the lineup Tuesday as he appeals the decision, meaning the suspension is on hold until his case is heard.

The veteran first baseman has been a bright spot in an inconsistent Cardinals season, batting .261 with 19 home runs, 30 doubles, and 72 RBIs. His fiery reaction comes at a critical time, as St. Louis trails in the National League Wild Card race.
