MLB Trade Rumors: Top 10 Players Who Were NOT Traded At MLB Deadline

Now that the dust has settled from the wild baseball trade deadline, let's have a look at the Top 10 players who we thought could be traded, but weren't:

Top 10 Players Who Were NOT Traded at MLB Deadline:

1. Steven Kwan, OF, Guardians

2. Jarren Duran, OF, Red Sox

3. Joe Ryan, SP, Twins

4. Sandy Alcantara, SP, Marlins

5. Edward Cabrera, SP, Marlins

6. Dylan Cease, SP, Padres

7. Mitch Keller, SP, Pirates

8. Mackenzie Gore, SP, Nationals

9. Zac Gallen, SP, Diamondbacks

10. Luis Robert, Jr., OF, White Sox

Two interesting trends here: The starting pitching market, that everyone thought would be so robust, kind of fizzled. Several of the top names did not get moved. In the cases of Ryan, Cease, Keller, and Gore, their teams were under no pressure whatsoever to trade those guys, and happy to hold on to them. With the Marlins' pair, they obviously weren't offered what they felt was fair value for a former Cy Young winner (Alcantara), and an up-and-coming young starter on the rise (Cabrera).

For Kwan and Duran, the Guardians and Red Sox, respectively, would have had to have their socks (Sox?) blown off in any offers, and that obviously didn't happen.

In the cases of Gallen and Robert Jr., both had performed so poorly this season that teams simply weren't willing to offer a big return with no guarantees that they'd return to the star players they once were.

The other major trend is that we don't see any relievers on this list. That's because they were all the rage on the trade market, and nearly every one of the projected relief trade candidates got dealt (save for Kenley Jansen and Dennis Santana). Teams always like to stack up their bullpens for the playoffs, and this season took that trend to another level.
