Atlanta Braves Release Veteran Starting Pitcher

Atlanta Braves pitcher Erick Fedde pitches during 2025 game.

The Atlanta Braves have released veteran right-hander Erick Fedde, less than a month after acquiring him from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fedde, 32, appeared in five games, including four starts, and posted a 1-2 record with an 8.10 ERA. Across his 2025 season between St. Louis and Atlanta, he is 4-12 with a 5.76 ERA, struggling to regain the form that helped him earn a two-year, $15 million deal after a strong 2024 season.

Braves Release Erick Fedde After Short Stint, Aaron Bummer Lands on IL

To fill rotation gaps, the Braves recalled right-handers Wander Suero and Hunter Stratton before Sunday’s game against the New York Mets and placed left-hander Aaron Bummer on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation. Bummer has compiled a 3-2 record with a 3.81 ERA in 42 appearances. Atlanta has been hit hard by injuries, with multiple starters, including AJ Smith-Shawver, Spencer Schwellenbach, Chris Sale, and Grant Holmes, sidelined, forcing the club to juggle its pitching staff.

Fedde’s release comes just weeks after Atlanta acquired him for cash or a player to be named later. His final outing with the Braves, a six-run performance over 4.1 innings against the Mets, capped a season-long slump that saw him post a 10.32 ERA over his last 10 games.

The right-hander now becomes a free agent and could sign with another team before the season’s end.
