Breaking Mets Trade: Mets Acquire High-Leverage Reliever with 1.80 ERA

The New York Mets have hit the trade market, adding a legit high-leverage reliever in nasty submariner Tyler Rogers from the San Francisco Giants.

It's a pretty steep price the Mets paid, however, sending Blade Tidwell and Drew Gilbert, their 10th and 12th ranking prospects, to San Francisco, in addition to reliever Jose Butto.

But Rogers can be absolutely unhittable at times, this season posting a 1.80 ERA with a 0.86 WHIP in 50 innings. He has a ridiculous 38:4 strikeout to walk ratio, and has held opposing batters to a stingy .212 average and .522 OPS.

He's been a Giant his entire seven-year career, and owns a 2.79 ERA and 1.10 WHIP across 396 big league innings. He is regularly among the league leaders in appearances for a reliever. He leads again this season with 53 games.

Tyler joins his twin brother Taylor as a trade commodity on the penultimate day before the deadline. Taylor Rogers was sent to a surprise destination just an hour earlier.

Tidwell, 24, who was the Mets' No. 10 prospect, is a 6'4" right-hander who has appeared in four games for New York this season, and has posted a 4.10 ERA for AAA Syracuse.

Gilbert, a centerfielder, was the Mets' No. 12 prospect and is also on the cusp of being a big leaguer. The 24-year-old has an .811 OPS this season across two minor league levels.

Butto is in his 4th year in Queens, and has a 3.64 ERA this season in 47 innings. He's been a solid, if not spectacular, bullpen arm for the Mets. In 2024, he held batters to a ridiculous .167 average across 74 innings. He can also start.
