MLB Rumors: Brewers' Starting Pitcher Named Trade Candidate
The Milwaukee Brewers have surged into Wild Card contention after a scorching 9-1 run, but that doesn’t mean they’re done dealing.
MLB insiders Robert Murray and Jeff Passan both believe starter Aaron Civale could be on the move before the trade deadline. While the Brewers are unlikely to part with ace Freddy Peralta midseason, Civale—on an expiring $8 million deal—is viewed as an ideal trade chip for a team trying to balance winning now with building a long-term successful team.

Brewers Weigh Trading Aaron Civale Despite Playoff Push
Since returning from an early hamstring injury, Civale has posted a solid 3.14 ERA in three starts, reinforcing the steady form he showed after being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays last season. With Brandon Woodruff and Nestor Cortes nearing returns, and pitching prospects like Logan Henderson and Jacob Misiorowski waiting in Triple-A, Milwaukee has the rotation depth to absorb Civale’s departure.
Trading him could help the Brewers address glaring needs on the infield, where offensive consistency remains elusive.

Rumors have linked Civale to pitching-needy contenders like the Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks. Arizona, in particular, could be a match if the Brewers were to pursue power-hitting third baseman Eugenio Suarez, who’s currently blocking top prospect Jordan Lawlar.
While Civale’s departure wouldn’t signal a rebuild, it would be classic Brewers baseball: selling high on an expendable arm to strengthen another weak spot.
