MLB Trade Rumors: Nolan Arenado Could Be Dealt To Stunning Destination

There were a few natural fits for St. Louis Cardinals veteran Nolan Arenado when he landed on the trade block this past offseason. The Houston Astros fell through when he put the kibosh on it himself. The Boston Red Sox went by the wayside when they signed free agent third baseman Alex Bregman. And the LA Dodgers seemingly have no interest in trading for Arenado.

But now, baseball insider Buster Olney has suggested three more teams that could still be in on him, including one stunning potential destination for the still-on-the-trade-block 10-time Gold Glove third baseman. Here are the trio of clubs he lists:

New York Yankees

Third base has been a disaster area for the Yankees this season. DJ Lemahieu, 36, has finally been activated from the IL to make his season debut this week, and he'll slot in at third for the time being, despite his three consecutive years of declining production. He hit .204 last season with just a pair of home runs in 228 plate appearances. He's now replacing Oswaldo Cabrera at the hot corner, after Cabrera suffered a gruesome ankle injury last weekend

But it's still possible that the Yanks will be looking to solidify the position, and a trade for Arenado, to join his former St. Louis teammate Paul Goldschmidt still could be in the... Cards.

LA Dodgers

Olney doesn't think that the Dodgers are completely off the table just yet. They had faith that their longtime hot corner man Max Muncy would turn it around this season, and he's showing them validity for their faith in him, having batted .333 with nine RBI over his last seven games. He's now up to a season-high .207 average, after hovering in the .170s earlier this month. But if he slips, LA could still consider calling St. Louis.

Could the Cardinals send Arenado to the Cubs?

Chicago Cubs

Here's the stunner. The Cubs and Cardinals are heated, hated rivals. Deals between these two teams are few and far between. And with the Cards currently on a 9-1 run and just one game back of the first-place Cubs in the NL Central, it's highly doubtful they'd send Arenado to the North Side of Chicago. But Olney hints at the possibility, stating that "The Cubs haven't found a solution at third base," as his third potential Arenado destination.

The eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glover was off to a superb start to the season, batting .300 with a .900 OPS through the first three weeks, but has settled down in the last month, batting just .224 with three homers through his last 30 games.
