Cabrera overran home plate on a sacrifice fly, and had to slam on the brakes and reach back for the plate, but his ankle and leg were left in an ugly situation.
Oswaldo Cabrera taken off field in ambulance after devastating ankle injury
The trainers immediately put a towel over his clearly dislocated ankle so that the horrifying sight wasn't visible any longer to either Cabrera or anyone else in the stadium.
Teammates were left shaken after watching the awkward injury take place and Cabrera being rushed off to hospital during New York’s 11-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
The visual is tough to watch but Justin Shackil put it perfectly. There’s not a single person in this sport who deserves something like this to happen less than Oswaldo Cabrera. pic.twitter.com/lXnLEY4vHQ https://t.co/lIBxQcFWHI

Superstar Aaron Judge marveled at Cabrera's attitude as he was being loaded into the ambulance, in obvious pain.
“Right before he got carted off, he just called me over and said, ‘Hey, did I score?’” Judge said. “So, just kind of shows you what type of guy he is. Something like that happens and the one thing on his mind for all the pain and everything is, ‘Did I score?’”
Cabrera is most likely facing a broken ankle, but ligament damage is also a possibility in this devastating injury.
The 26-year-old was hitting .243 this season as the Yankees' main third baseman.
