Diamondbacks Designate Catcher For Assignment

He was claimed off of waivers three weeks ago.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have designated catcher Ali Sanchez for assignment.

Sanchez was claimed three weeks ago from the Pittsburgh Pirates off waivers to compete for a backup catching job. However, now that the D-Backs have acquired top prospect Gabriel Moreno from the Toronto Blue Jays, they have no need for him.

The twenty-five-year-old spent the entire past season in the minor leagues, registering a .262/.354/.743 slash line, with six home runs, 33 RBIs, two stolen bases and 38 runs scored across 252 at-bats.

Sanchez will now hit the waiver wire and look for an opportunity with another team.
