Silver Slugger Award Finalists Announced

MLB has announced its 2022 Silver Slugger Award finalists. The awards go to the players judged to have been the best offensively at each position. They're voted on by managers and coaches across the league.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros lead the way in the American League with six nominees each, while the Los Angeles Dodgers lead the way with seven finalists in the National League, while the New York Mets have six.

From an individual standpoint, Shohei Ohtani leads the way with two Silver Slugger nominations, one at DH and another at the newly-instituted Utility Award—a nice way to recognize his exploits as a pitcher who hits.

The Jays have Vladimir Guerrero up for a repeat performance at 1B in the AL, while Jose Altuve looks for his 6th Silver Slugger at 2B for the Astros.

Jose Ramirez is a 3-time previous winner, looking for his 4th at 3B for the Cleveland Guardians. Corey Seager was a 2-time winner at SS in the NL, now looking to take one home in the AL with the Texas Rangers.

In the AL outfield, the Blue Jays have two nominees, George Springer and Teoscar Hernandez, as do the Los Angeles Angels with Mike Trout and Taylor Ward.

In the NL, no one but Paul Goldschmidt and Freddie Freeman has won it at 1B since 2016. They're both up for it again. At 3B, Nolan Arenado’s four Silver Sluggers are tied for the third most all-time at that position. He's going for his 5th against a tough field.

Trea Turner and Dansby Swanson will both hope to add to their free agent resumes with a Silver Slugger at SS. While in the OF, the Mets have two entrants, Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte.

Winners will be revealed on Nov. 10.
