MLB Rumors: Top 5 Free Agent Landing Spots For Pete Alonso

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso celebrates during 2025 game.

Pete Alonso is officially heading back to free agency, and this time it feels like his days with the New York Mets might really be numbered.

After another big power season, the “Polar Bear” is set to draw plenty of interest across the league, and several teams look like natural fits to chase one of baseball’s premier sluggers.

New York Yankees

The Yankees have been searching for stability at first base, and Pete Alonso could be the perfect solution. Alonso would give Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton a formidable partner in the middle of the order. Adding him would also sting the Mets, making this a rare chance to strike a blow in the New York rivalry.

New York Mets

Despite Alonso opting out, the Mets remain one of the top candidates to retain him. Steve Cohen has the financial muscle, but the front office is facing tough choices with pitching upgrades badly needed. If they feel confident in their younger infield depth, they might let Alonso walk, but keeping their longtime slugger would keep the fans onside and ensure the lineup remains dangerous.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers had one of baseball’s best pitching staffs in 2025, but their offense faltered. Jake Burger didn’t pan out at first base, and the team desperately needs a reliable run producer. Alonso’s consistent power bat could be the missing piece to balance their roster. With a chance to reassert themselves in a stacked AL West, Texas may decide that Alonso is worth the investment.

Seattle Mariners

Pete Alonso could be their move if they can't bring back Josh Naylor. The Mariners have already shown a willingness to make bold moves, and Alonso’s power would slot perfectly into their lineup. If they don’t go deep in October, the front office might feel pressure to secure a long-term middle-of-the-order threat.

Boston Red Sox

Boston’s infield situation is uncertain, especially with Triston Casas’ health still a question mark and Alex Bregman’s future up in the air. The Red Sox have the payroll flexibility to make a splash, and Alonso would immediately add stability and star power.
