MLB Rumors: 3 Landing Spots For Cody Bellinger This Offseason

New York Yankees players Cody Bellinger & Aaron Judge walk off the field during 2025 game.

Cody Bellinger is set to opt out and re-enter free agency at age 30 after another strong season, and the market should be robust for a middle-order lefty who can handle center field or first base.

With Scott Boras steering the negotiations and a nine-figure total value in play, the question shifts from if he will cash in to where he fits best. Three clubs stand out as realistic, high-leverage destinations.

Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs traded Bellinger during last winter’s roster reshuffle, but the door to a reunion is wide open. Chicago needs a proven bat to stabilize the lineup around Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ, and Bellinger’s versatility solves multiple problems at once.

He can handle center field while Pete Crow-Armstrong continues to develop, then slide to first base if needed. There is no burned-bridge narrative here, and the Cubs have the resources to structure a front-loaded deal that preserves future flexibility. If Chicago misses out on other marquee bats, Bellinger becomes the cleanest fit with the fewest moving parts.

Los Angeles Dodgers
A Los Angeles Dodgers reunion would be a full-circle story. The roster could use a left-handed outfield anchor who lengthens the order and offers contingency value at first base.

The Dodgers can pay market rate without blinking, and they value players who bring lineup elasticity in October. The question is roster geometry. If internal options lock down center field, Bellinger profiles as the everyday left fielder with premium defense and contact-quality upside that has rebounded since 2023.

San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants may present the most aggressive pathway to star impact.

Their outfield defense and thump both need a lift, and Bellinger checks those boxes while pairing cleanly with Jung Hoo Lee and Heliot Ramos. San Francisco has shown a renewed willingness to close on marquee talents, and Oracle Park rewards gap power and athletic outfielders who can take extra bases.

A four to six year structure with a player option could satisfy both sides, giving the Giants a lineup catalyst and giving Bellinger security.
