St. Louis Cardinals Sign Pitcher

Major league free agency is back! The St. Louis Cardinals have got the ball rolling, as they have signed Drew VerHagen to a two-year contract. He will make $2.5 million in 2022 and $3 million the following campaign.

Interestingly, VerHagen has not pitched in the majors since the 2019 season with the Detroit Tigers. Instead, he pitched with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in each of the last two seasons. With them, he had sported a 13-14 record, 3.49 ERA, and 215 strikeouts. Overall, he had decent success overseas in their bullpen and now has landed this sweet multi-year deal with the Cardinals because of it.

VerHagen already has a decent amount of experience in the majors, however. In 127 appearances with the Tigers over six seasons, he had a 10-10 record, 5.11 ERA, and 156 strikeouts. He will now be looking to improve on these numbers with St. Louis.

Nevertheless, this is the first of many signings we will be seeing before Opening Day begins. Stay tuned.
