Top 5 Outfielders On The Free Agent Market (And Possible Destinations)

Free agency is upon us, and while the superstar crop at shortstop gets a lot of the attention, teams looking for help in the outfield can get a huge boost from this list of top available free agents.

1. Kris Bryant

What puts Bryant at the top of this class is his ability to play multiple positions—1B, 3B, LF, RF—and play them all well.

He's a 4-time All-Star, with an MVP and a World Series ring, and brings a winning presence to any clubhouse he joins. He has a career .880 OPS with a .278 average.

Potential Landing Spots: San Francisco, New York Mets, Seattle

2. Starling Marte

He professed a desire to remain in Miami, but after turning down the Marlins' 3-year, $30M offer at midseason, Marte was dealt to the Oakland A's, where he made an immediate impact at the top of their order. He finished the season with a league-leading 47 stolen bases, and his defense in the outfield would be a legitimate upgrade for any team in need.

Potential Landing Spots: New York Yankees, Miami Marlins

3. Nick Castellanos

A career year for Castellanos led him to opt-out of his contract with the Cincinnati Reds that would have paid him $34M over the next two years. It's a gamble that should pay off big-time on the open market.

The 29-year-old posted a .939 OPS in 2021 with 34 HR, 100 RBIs, and a .309 average. He's a legit middle-of-the-order power bat.

Potential Landing Spots: New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox

4. Chris Taylor

Taylor has certainly displayed the "clutch" gene, coming up with huge post-season game-winning moments for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Like Bryant, he's extremely versatile, and can play 2B, SS, 3B and all three outfield positions.

On the offensive side of the ball, he brings a bit of everything, some power, a little speed, and just generally being a spark-plug anywhere in the order.

Potential Landing Spots: Seattle, Texas, Los Angeles Dodgers

5. Michael Conforto

A down year in '21 has hurt Conforto's stock, though he was a mainstay in the Mets outfield for the four years previous, averaging close to 30 HR and with an OPS close to .900. He has officially declined the Mets' qualifying offer, looking for more than the one-year, $18.4M pact.

Potential Landing Spots: Texas, Miami, New York Mets

The wild card in all this, is "the Japanese Ronald Acuna Jr.", Seiya Suzuki, superstar of the Nippon League, who is expected to be posted shortly, and will be available for bidding my MLB teams. He would slot in higher than most on this list.
