3 Potential Landing Spots For SP Luis Castillo

With the Cincinnati Reds willing to listen to trade offers for Luis Castillo, it's pretty clear that they are opening the gates to rebuilding. Castillo is a pitcher that will get a ton of interest around the league. He was an All-Star in 2019 and is not eligible to be an unrestricted free agent until after the 2023 season. He is also still only 28 years old.

The 2021 campaign started off horribly for Castillo and it played a key role in his 8-16 record and 3.98 ERA for the year. However, it's crucial to also note that he bounced back very from from June 1st to the end of the season, as he had a 2.73 ERA between that period. That is more in line with what fans expect from him.

Here are three teams who should be calling about Castillo.

New York Yankees: The New York Yankees pursued Castillo heavily last year, so interest is clearly there. However, any hope of a deal was squashed after the Yankees opted to sign Corey Kluber instead. Now, the Yankees are very likely to explore the possibility of adding Castillo, especially with the Reds being more open to discussions this time around.

Seattle Mariners: The Seattle Mariners are expected to be aggressive this offseason and Castillo could be a very good option for them. They surprised a lot of fans this season when they finished with a 90-72 record. However, one area that they could use some improvement on is their pitching and with Castillo being under team control for two more years, that absolutely could interest them.

Boston Red Sox: The Boston Red Sox have rejected club options for both Martin Perez and Garrett Richards, so they will be on the hunt for at least one new starter. Eduardo Rodriguez could also leave via free agency, too. The Red Sox have a strong prospect pool, so do have the assets to make a deal for Castillo. It certainly would help improve their rotation, which is a real necessity for them.
