Jesús Aguilar Likely Done For The Year

Jesús Aguilar is likely done for the season, according to Barry Jackson and Craig Mish of the Miami Herald. The 31-year-old first baseman has been out due to left knee inflammation. It's probably the best course of action at this juncture, as the Marlins have a 61-84 record. Thus, there is no need for Aguilar to risk injuring himself more severely with the team out of the playoff race.

Overall, it was a very good season for Aguilar. In 131 games, he had 22 home runs, 93 RBIs and a .261 batting average. It was his best season since his All-Star campaign with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018. He will be looking to carry this momentum into next season and there's no reason to doubt that he can.

Aguilar is in his final year of arbitration and will be eligible to be an unrestricted free agent in 2023. Therefore, it would not be surprising to see him sign a one-year extension this off-season. If he has another strong year at the plate, he will get a nice raise on the open market. Here's to hoping he has a speedy recovery.
