MLB Trade Rumors: Freddy Peralta Heads To Blue Jays In Proposed Deadline Deal
Peralta, 30, set for free agency at the end of the season, stands out because of his track record and relatively modest salary (he is making $8 million this season).Multiple scouts and executives who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak freely on the topic said the Mets should end up doing fine on a return for Peralta.
Unfortunately, they won't be able to recoup the kind of prospect return that they sent to Milwaukee for him (Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams), but okay, nonetheless.
One team that could be desperate enough for a starting pitcher to make a good offer would be the Toronto Blue Jays. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has proposed the following deal to bring Fastball Freddy north of the border:
Toronto Blue Jays acquire:
- RHP Freddy Peralta
- RHP Jake Bloss (Jays #8 prospect)
- OF RJ Schreck (Jays #9 prospect)
It's hypothetical, but it's probably along the lines of the sort of return that the Mets can expect to get for Peralta. But if we were running the Jays, we might be searching for an impact bat of some kind at the deadline. Their moribund offense ranks about 22nd in OPS+ in the majors. They just recently broke a 29 2/3 inning scoreless streak—just three frames shy of the franchise-worst mark of 32 consecutive scoreless innings set in May 1981. 1 9 8 1 !!
