Former Blue Jays Closer Jordan Romano Finds New MLB Home
Former top closer Jordan Romano is back in the major leagues.... But this could get ugly. The former two-time All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays has been called up by the Colorado Rockies.

Of course, the thin air at Coors Field isn't the most friendly atmosphere for pitchers who are struggling. And that's the only word you can use to describe Romano's trials and tribulations in the majors these past couple of years.
The 33-year-old was DFA'd by the Los Angeles Angels back in May after posting a 10.13 ERA across 11 appearances. The Rockies signed him to a minor league deal, and have now selected his contract from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Romano has struggled mightily the past two seasons; will try again in... Colorado
His troubles on the mound this season with the Angels were not an aberration. In 2025, he registered an 8.23 ERA with the Philadelphia Phillies. The year before that? 6.59 ERA with the Blue Jays before they decided to cut bait after the season. What's to come in Colorado, we can only imagine.
To be fair, his time at Albuquerque over the past few weeks has been decent, with a 10:0 strikeout to walk ratio across 8.2 innings and a 4.15 ERA.
But will he be able to keep the ball in the yard in a ballpark, Coors Field, that most pitchers around baseball tremble at the thought of pitching in?
Romano was lights out for three seasons with his hometown Toronto Blue Jays, posting 95 saves from 2021 through 2023 with an ERA of about 2.25 over that time. But by the end of May in 2024, it was obvious something was wrong, as he was dealing with elbow pain and a 6.59 ERA. He was forced to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right elbow to repair an impingement. He has never been the same since.
The Rockies are willing to give him another chance.
