Significant Move For LA Angels Could Trigger Big Sell-Off At Deadline

The Los Angeles Angels made a significant move Friday night, firing general manager Perry Minasian.

It's the sixth straight season of disappointment for the Angels under Minasian, which included their loss, after 2023, of the greatest player of our times (and arguably of all-time) Shohei Ohtani.
Minasian (perhaps partly as a conduit for owner Arte Moreno) has been notoriously reluctant to trade pieces at the deadline in order to bring in some future assets (again, no more glaring example of that than Ohtani).

Angels could finally be ready to sell after firing GM

There had been all sorts of talk again this season that the Angels have no intention of dealing their top trade candidates at the deadline, including the likes of Reid Detmers, Jose Soriano and Jo Adell. Those three could bring in a huge haul for a rebuild.

Former Cardinals GM John Mozeliak has been named their interim general manager and baseball operations consultant. He will oversee day-to-day baseball operations while assisting in the search for the next Angels GM. But whether it's Mozeliak, or a permanent replacement, perhaps we'll finally see the Angels join the trade deadline festivities as sellers, so that they can finally build something for the future.

At 34-48, the Angels are well on their way to their 11th straight losing season and 12th straight year out of the playoffs, both the longest streaks in the majors.

But what makes those numbers even more wretched for Angels fans, is the fact that its farm system is still considered to be among the majors' worst, totally unacceptable for a team finishing at the bottom of the standings for so many years, and afforded so many high draft picks.

Let's see if they use that exciting trio of trade candidates to turn that around.
