MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees & Rockies Linked In Proposed Trade
To say the New York Yankees haven't gotten much offensive production out of the catcher's spot is a massive understatement. 29th in the majors in OPS, 28th in batting average, tied for 28th in home runs.
And while they've often been linked to Ryan Jeffers of the Minnesota Twins as a trade candidate, let's take a look at a proposed trade from Christopher Kline of Fansided that would send a much better catching option to the Bronx Bombers.
New York Yankees receive:
- Hunter Goodman, C
Colorado Rockies receive:
- RHP Luis Gil
- OF Spencer Jones
- RHP Ben Hess
This would be a huge addition for the Yankees' lineup. Goodman leads the majors this season in long balls from the catching spot, with 26 HR, which is on pace to smash his career-high of 31 homers from last season. He's posting a .546 slugging pct., and an .856 OPS.
And the craziest part of Goodman's season? He's done most of that damage on the road, NOT in the hitting-friendly confines of Coors Field. A .284 avg. on the road, just .200 at home; 18 HR and a .990 OPS on the road, just 8 HR and .702 OPS at Coors. Those are stunning splits. Imagine bringing that power to Yankee Stadium.

For the Rockies, they get a couple of top prospects from New York, including Jones, who "can help Colorado replace Goodman's thump in the heart of the order," writes Kline. Jones clubbed 35 homers last year in the high minors, and already had 13 and 48 RBIs this season in just 43 games at Triple-A.
Gil was the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year, though has been hampered by injuries since mid-2025. He's struggling this season with an ERA over 6.
Hess is the Yankees' No. 5 prospect; the 6'5", 255-pound right-hander "could become a frontline starter if he can refine his control and show more durability," writes MLB Pipeline.
Watch out for the Bronx Bombers if they're able to make this move.
