The D-Backs were the ninth team Santana has suited up with in his lengthy career, and it was expected that he would be their starting first baseman this season. He ended up playing only eight games with the club.
Santana has also played for the Cleveland Guardians (in three separate stints), the Philadelphia Phillies, Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs.
He's compiled 335 home runs in his 17 seasons, with a .240 lifetime average but a robust .351 on-base pct., allowing him to post a .775 OPS. His ability to draw walks was always one of his top attributes. He led the American League twice in that category.
He was an All-Star in 2019 when he blasted 34 homers with 93 RBIs for Cleveland, both career bests. He topped the 20-HR mark nine times, and had 19 three other years.
Should be interesting to see if Santana tries to hook up with another team, or if this is it for the 40-year-old.
