MLB Trade: Dodgers Pull Off Deal With Diamondbacks

It was a shocking move made by the Arizona Diamondbacks last week, when we learned that they had DFA'd their once-prized prospect, Alek Thomas.

Thomas was the No. 1 prospect for the Snakes when he was called up in 2022, though he has never produced like it at the major league level. Not even close. He has a .230 career batting average, a .273 on-base percentage and a .634 OPS.

In the minors on his way up through the system, it was a whole different story. Thomas averaged .317 with a .390 OBP, and an .891 OPS.

Thomas, 26, was hitting .181 with two homers in 100 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks this season.

But the young outfielder was a star back in the D-Backs' 2023 run to the World Series. He hit four home runs and scored nine times during their 17 postseason games that year. He hit one humongous home run that kept the Snakes' run alive.

Strange things happen when failed players go to the Dodgers, so expect to see Thomas up and producing with the Dodgers at some point. He's expected to start in the minors, however.

Arizona received 17-year-old outfield prospect Jose Requena from LA in return.
