Former Yankees Infielder Retires At Age 33

After a ten-year major league career with a lifetime average of .270, versatile infielder Gio Urshela has called it quits. He has announced his retirement at the age of 33.

Urshela last played for the Athletics in Sacramento last season, posting a .238 average in 197 plate appearances.

He became a household name during his three seasons as a regular in the Bronx, playing an excellent third base and posting an OPS of .815 with the New York Yankees. His peak season was 2019, when he batted .314, with 21 homers and 74 RBIs, with an .889 OPS. He also hit a couple of homers that postseason for New York.

He was a Gold Glove finalist at third for the Yanks in 2020.

Urshela was a respected clubhouse presence at all of his stops. In addition to his peak years with the Yankees, and his last stop with the A's, he also played for the Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, and Minnesota Twins.
