The season-ending surgery will result in a six to eight-month recovery for Correa, per Jeff Passan.
Intriguingly, it was medicals on Correa’s right ankle that caused first the San Francisco Giants, then the NY Mets, to back out of $300 million-plus free agent deals with Correa before the 2023 season. The Minnesota Twins, however, were happy to bring him back, but then sent him to the Astros at last year’s trade deadline amidst a fire sale.
The Astros came into the season with a supposedly crowded infield, and they spent the winter trying to trade Isaac Paredes, who was seemingly left without a position. Now he will slide into Correa's spot at third base on a full-time basis.
In Correa's second stint with the Astros, he was batting .279 this year with a .787 OPS and three home runs.
