Blue Jays DFA Pitcher For Second Time This Season

The second time around wasn't a charm for right-hander Austin Voth with the Toronto Blue Jays. After surrendering three home runs, four walks and five earned runs in 3.1 innings Friday night, Voth woke up Saturday morning to find out he'd been designated for assignment for the second time this season by the Jays.

Voth cleared waivers after being DFA'd the first time in early April and elected free agency. But he re-signed with the Blue Jays on a minor-league deal just four days later.

In eight starts at Buffalo in Triple-A, he had posted some nice numbers, including a 2.90 ERA and a 23:9 strikeout to walk ratio. But his return to the majors wasn't pretty, as the Baltimore Orioles roughed him up pretty good last night.

Back in April, in his one appearance with Toronto, Voth fared better, allowing only one earned run on three hits in 2.2 innings for a 3.38 ERA. Overall, he now has a 9.00 ERA this season for the Jays.

Whether he will accept an assignment to Buffalo once again if he clears waivers, or chooses to go the free agent route again, remains to be seen.

Voth has eight years of experience in the majors, with a 4.77 ERA over 366 innings. He's alternated between starting and relieving.

The Jays have selected RHP Hayden Juenger to the major league roster to replace Voth. He had a 3.15 ERA out of the bullpen in Buffalo this season, with 10.4 K/9 in 20 innings. He also had three saves, and started a couple of games as well.

It will be his major league debut whenever he first takes the mound for Toronto.
