MLB Trade: Blue Jays Acquire Infielder From White Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays, with injury problems aplenty, have swung a deal with the Chicago White Sox to acquire infielder Lenyn Sosa.

The Jays send 18-year-old outfielder Jordan Rich and "a player to be named later or cash considerations" to the ChiSox in return.

Sosa, 26, showed some promising power last season on the South Side of Chicago, blasting 22 home runs with 75 RBIs as the regular second baseman for the Pale Hose, with a .264 average and a league-average 100 OPS+ (.727 OPS). He can also play first and third base. He's off to a rough start this season, going 7-for-33 for a .212 average. He lost his starting second base job this year to Chase Meidroth.

Sosa's arrival with the Jays could allow either Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Kazuma Okamoto to spend time rotating with Eloy Jimenez through DH with George Springer out for some time with a fractured toe. Sosa could also take some hacks at DH. He will not be in the Jays' lineup for their game Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Blue Jays are without a slew of regulars with their massive injury bug, including Springer, Alejandro Kirk, Addison Barger, and four starting pitchers.

As for Rich, he was selected by Toronto in the 17th round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
