MLB Rumors: Mets & Padres Linked to Potential Blockbuster Trade

The New York Mets extended their losing streak to 11 games with their 2-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. With this, the Mets now have a nightmare 7-15 record and are at the bottom of the National League East standings.

If the Mets do not turn things around immediately and go on a real heater from here, they may have no choice but to be sellers at this year's trade deadline. Due to this, one of their top stars is now already creating chatter in the rumor mill and is being linked to the San Diego Padres.

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Joel Reuter made a trade pitch that would have the Mets send star pitcher Freddy Peralta to the Padres in exchange for prospects Ethan Salas, Ryan Wideman, and Tucker Musgrove.

With Peralta being a pending free agent, it would be understandable if the Mets listened to offers for him if they do not get their season back on track and he still does not have a contract extension nearing the deadline. He is too valuable of a pitcher for the Mets to potentially lose for nothing in free agency if they are not a playoff team this year.

It is also no secret that the Padres need to add a star pitcher to their rotation, so it would make all the sense in the world for them to make a major push for Peralta. He would be a big pickup for them as they look to go on a real run this year.

It will be interesting to see if the Padres end up striking a deal with the Mets for Peralta from here.
