13-Year Veteran Chooses Free Agency After Getting DFA'd

He has cleared waivers after getting designated for assignment last week. Now, former NY Mets (and many other teams) outfielder Tommy Pham has decided to pass on an assignment to the minors, and so has elected to become a free agent once again.

The 38-year-old went 0-for-13 with a walk and seven strikeouts over nine games this season with New York, but still feels he has something to give another major league team.

Pham has played for 10 teams in his 13 MLB seasons, posting a .256 average and .765 OPS with 149 home runs, 200 doubles, and 522 RBI. Eight of those teams have come over the last five seasons for the journeyman outfielder.

His last season of real consequence came back in 2023, when he registered an OPS of .820 for the Mets, before being traded to the Diamondbacks. In total, he launched 16 home runs with 68 RBIs that season.

All in all, he's played for the St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres, the Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Kansas City Royals.
