SIGNED: Free Agent Andrew McCutchen Heads to American League

Five-time All-Star and former NL MVP Andrew McCutchen has spent his entire career in the National League, mainly, of course, with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now, as a free agent, he has decided to take his talents to the Texas Rangers of the American League.

Now going into his 18th season, McCutchen's MVP days are long ago in the rear-view mirror (2013), but he's still hoping to contribute, after his three-year return stint in Pittsburgh came to an end after last season.

It'll be a minor league deal for Cutch to start his Texas run, with an invite to the Rangers' major league camp.

The Pirates great has a lifetime .271 average and .822 OPS. In the last three years back in Pittsburgh, his numbers have dipped to the .700 OPS mark, and just a bit under league average, with an OPS+ of 95 (100 being league avg). He hit 13 homers with a .333 on-base pct, while batting .239 last season. He posted an overall .736 OPS for the Bucs over his three-year reunion.

His first go-round saw him earn All-Star honors in five of his first seven years in the majors, including that three straight top-3 MVP finishes (and an award in 2013). He had three straight years of .900+ OPS marks, and 20-20 stats (homers & stolen bases).

McCutchen will be in his age-39 season this year, but still feels he can contribute to a big league team. He's one of the most respected veterans in the game, and he'll bring that to the Rangers clubhouse.
