MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Landing Spots for Mets Starter Kodai Senga
Kodai Senga finished the 2025 season in the minors for the New York Mets, not exactly where the team expected the Japanese hurler to be. After an All-Star rookie season in 2023, Senga missed the entire 2024 year to injuries to his shoulder and then his calf.
In 2025, the season started with Senga looking like he was back to his All-Star form, going 7-3 with a 1.39 ERA through his first 14 starts. But it unravelled from there, and by September, he had agreed to go down to Triple-A.
Senga was on the trade block this offseason, and while nothing has been consummated just yet, many still expect a deal to take place at some point. The Mets now have Freddy Peralta as their main man to head up their staff, and the young rookie sensation Nolan McLean as the next in line.
Let's take a look at three top potential landing spots for Senga on the trade market, per Mike Axisa of CBS Sports.
Arizona Diamondbacks
The D-Backs just announced on Wednesday that their Opening Day starter is a pitcher who wasn't even on their roster a month ago. Yes, Zac Gallen has also been an Opening Day starter for the Snakes the last three seasons. But he was never coming off a brutal 4.83 ERA before. Additionally, Merrill Kelly has been shut down due to back issues, while Eduardo Rodriguez and Brandon Pfaadt had ERAs over 5 last season. Arizona could stand an improvement for their rotation.
San Francisco Giants
The team spent the offseason looking for another strong starter to follow their Logan Webb/Robbie Ray one-two punch, but came up short, adding Tyler Mahle and Adrian Houser. Sure, they're decent 4-5 options, but for a No. 3, Senga would be ideal.
San Diego Padres
Yu Darvish is out for the year, Joe Musgrove is still a question mark, coming off Tommy John surgery, and free agent signees German Marquez and Walker Buehler had ERAs of 6.70 and 4.93, respectively, last season. Yikes. Senga, even after a dreadful finish to the 2025 season, still finished with a 3.02 ERA!
One of these teams needs to pony up and go get the former 5-time Japan Series champion.
