MLB Trade Rumor: Yankees' Jasson Dominguez Heads to Pirates in Proposed Blockbuster

You can see it, can't you? The Pittsburgh Pirates, who've put themselves firmly on the radar this past offseason with a series of interesting moves, now go searching on the really big stage of New York. Could they land the former Yankees' top prospect Jasson Dominguez?

After coming off a disappointing first full season in the majors, he does not have a starting role in the Yankees outfield in 2026, and in fact, it's believed that Domínguez is likely headed to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start the season.

But instead of wasting him on the farm, Christopher Kline of Fansided has proposed an out-of-this-world blockbuster trade that would send The Martian to Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Pirates receive:

  • Jasson Dominguez, OF
  • Jake Bird, RHP

New York Yankees receive:
  • Thomas Harrington, RHP  (Pirates' No. 14 prospect)
  • Carmen Mlodzinski, RHP

The Pirates have been accumulating assets this winter and spring, both young and old. Their biggest splash on the prospects front was nabbing "Password" Jhostynxon Garcia from the Boston Red Sox. The outfielder is suddenly the Pirates' No. 6 prospect, and may be even closer to full-time duty in the majors than The Martian. Nevertheless, writes Kline, "Domínguez is super toolsy, with elite speed on the bases and an ability to generate incredible exit velocities — particularly against right-handed pitching. He might begin his Pirates tenure in Triple-A, but he'd be an injury away from that Major League call-up."

For the Yankees, they would get an upgrade on Bird in the bullpen in the former first-round pick Mlodzinski, and as a swing man, he could also help in the rotation, as the Yanks face a multitude of injuries there to start the year. In addition, they'd get a look at a pitching prospect in Harrington who was another first-round pick, in 2022.
