MLB Trade Rumors: Isaac Paredes Heads to Pirates in Proposed Deal
The Pittsburgh Pirates have already made a bigger splash this offseason than anyone could have expected. But are they not done yet?
After adding the bats of Marcell Ozuna for DH, Brandon Lowe for second base and Ryan O'Hearn for the outfield — not to mention the emergence this spring of superstar rookie Konnor Griffin — the Pirates lineup is looking as good as it has in years.
Could they still be going for more? We're taking a look at a proposed trade that would bring third baseman Isaac Paredes to the City of Bridges. It comes to us from Christopher Kline of Fansided.
Pittsburgh Pirates receive:
- Isaac Paredes, 3B/1B/2B
Houston Astros receive:
- Hunter Barco, LHP
- Jared Triolo, 3B
Third base is a spot that still needs a substantial upgrade for the Pirates, and in this hypothetical scenario, they nab a two-time All-Star. Paredes reached the 20-HR mark for the third time last season, with an .809 OPS in just 102 games. But he was unceremoniously dumped from the hot corner when the Astros brought back Carlos Correa in a trade with the Minnesota Twins. Paredes is currently without a starting job in Houston despite his solid offensive output. This deal would free him up to showcase his power in Pittsburgh.
25-year-old Barco is a promising prospect on the mound, bringing a unique look as a southpaw with a low-angle arm slot. So odd, that he had reverse platoon splits while in the minors. The 25-year-old has a 3.04 ERA across three minor league seasons, with 11.1 K/9.
Triolo is a utilityman who doesn't bring much of a bat, but did win a Gold Glove at the utility spot in 2024. He can play every position on the infield, though he has the most experience at third and short.
The Astros are currently wasting Paredes' power on the bench, and this proposed deal would give them a nice young piece for the pitching staff, and a great glove on the infield.
For the Pirates, it would give them another solid bat to put them in the playoff conversation for the first time in eons.
